When did it become government's business to protect 11-year-olds from sexually transmitted diseases?

In Virginia, the answer is 2007.

That's when the General Assembly mandated that, beginning with this school year, every girl entering the sixth grade in Virginia be vaccinated against human papillomavirus, which causes the most common sexually transmitted disease and - more the point - cervical cancer.

NO!! Are they even taking into account the health issues that this vaccine causes? Why are they "following" Texas? This is not going to protect the population from these girls. They aren't contagious. The State does NOT have the right to tell me that I, or my child, must get this shot. To offer it is OK! But NOT to make it mandatory!

Texas doesn't mandate that girls get vaccinated, cal.

Gov. Perry TRIED but was voted down.

Sorry, last I heard it was a mandate! Thanks for the update. Felt the same way back ,then. Glad! Horrified to hear of health issues caused by that vaccine. Girls being hurt by it.

Instead, the push for the government to require vaccination came from the only maker of the vaccine.

And there's your answer. Sad, but true. It comes down to money. Maybe the new gov. will work to kick this mandate.
